OLMEDO 1445 The instability of the reign of Juan II of Castile, caused by the disputes between the king’s favorite, the constable Don Alvaro de Luna and the league of nobles led by the infantes of Aragon, with the support of the kingdom of Navarra, crystallized in a warlike confrontation which lasted, truces in between, between 1437 and 1445, with the final match being fought in the summer of this last year in front of the town of Olmedo. This book explains the causes and maneuvers of the campaign and offers an authentic treatise on the rules of combat, tactics , equipment, and weapons typical of the mid-15th century. THE RUSSIAN CRUISER ASKOLD: 3D In the late 1890s, the Russian Empire sought to strengthen its presence in the Far East, China, and Korea. Faced with a growing threat posed by the Imperial Japanese Navy, the Russians saw an urgent need to build up their naval forces in the region. On February 20, 1898, Emperor Nicholas II approved a supplementary ship-building program for the Far East, which would see the construction of six 5,000 – 6,000 ton cruisers in addition to ships already being built under the 1895 program.
